Frequently Asked Questions
A few answers to common questions about starting therapy, fees, insurance, telehealth, and what working together might look like.
-
I work primarily with adults dealing with trauma, anxiety, depression, life transitions, relationship patterns, and feeling stuck or disconnected from themselves. I especially enjoy working with LGBTQ+ clients and people who are thoughtful and self-aware but find that understanding a problem has not necessarily changed how it feels.
My style is collaborative, active, and experiential. We may talk, but we may also work with emotions, body sensations, patterns, memories, or different “parts” of your experience. You do not need to know whether I am the right therapist before contacting me. That is part of what the free consultation is for.
-
The consultation is a short conversation before scheduling therapy. I will usually ask what is bringing you in, what you are hoping for, and whether there are any important practical considerations such as scheduling, insurance, or cost.
You can also ask me questions about my approach or what working together might look like. It is not a therapy session, and you do not need to tell me your whole story. By the end, we should have a reasonable sense of whether it makes sense to schedule an initial appointment.

I am currently completing credentialing with selected insurance networks for Illuminated Path LLC. Until a specific plan and effective date are confirmed, sessions with my practice are considered private pay.
As insurance plans become active, I will update the Fees + Insurance page. If I am not in network with your plan, I may be able to provide a superbill that you can submit for possible out-of-network reimbursement.
Insurance benefits vary significantly, so I recommend confirming your mental-health benefits, deductible, copay or coinsurance, and out-of-network coverage directly with your insurance company.

The fee for an initial diagnostic evaluation is $175. Standard individual therapy sessions are $150.
I also reserve a limited number of reduced-fee spaces at $90, $105, or $120 per session. These spaces are limited and may not always be available, but you are welcome to ask!
If cost is an important factor in deciding whether therapy is feasible, it is completely appropriate to bring that up during the consultation.

I currently provide online psychotherapy to adults physically located in Ohio at the time of the session.
Sessions take place by secure video. You will need a reliable internet connection, a device with a camera and microphone, and a reasonably private place where you feel comfortable talking.
Telehealth works very well for many people, but it is not automatically the best fit for everyone. If you are unsure whether the kind of work you want to do translates well online, we can talk about that during the consultation.
-
No. You do not need to choose your own treatment method before coming to therapy.
My work can include EMDR, parts-oriented therapy, mindfulness, somatic approaches, CBT, and other evidence-based methods. What we use depends on what you are experiencing, what feels useful to you, and what we learn together over time.
For example, we would not automatically begin EMDR simply because you have experienced trauma. We would first assess what is happening, establish enough stability and resources, and decide together whether EMDR or another approach makes sense.
-
Not at all.
Some people arrive saying, “I know exactly what the problem is.” Others arrive with something more like, “I’m functioning, but something feels off,” “I keep repeating the same pattern,” or “I understand this intellectually and nothing is changing.”
All of those are legitimate reasons to start therapy. One of our first jobs can simply be figuring out what is happening, what matters most, and where it would be useful to begin.

Start by clicking Request a Consultation and completing the short inquiry form.
If it looks like I may be able to help, we will arrange a free 15-minute consultation. If we decide to work together, I will then invite you to the secure Client Portal, where you can complete the paperwork needed before your first appointment.
You do not need to create a Client Portal account before we have decided to work together.
-
The Client Portal is the secure online system used by current clients for the administrative side of therapy.
You may use it to complete intake paperwork and consent forms and access other practice-related information. Once you become a client, I will send you an invitation to create your account.
If you are not yet a client, use Request a Consultation rather than the Client Portal.
-
If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please give as much advance notice as you can.
Late cancellations and missed appointments may be charged your regular session fee, up to a maximum charge of $100. Insurance does not generally reimburse missed-appointment or late-cancellation fees.
The full policy is included in the paperwork you review before beginning therapy.
