About Evan
I’m Evan Wilkerson, MSW, LISW, RYT-200, a therapist working with adults in Ohio.
I believe therapy can be deeply serious without your therapist becoming a blank wall. I’m active, collaborative, and fairly direct, and I want the work we do together to make sense to you.
My approach brings together trauma therapy, EMDR, parts work, mindfulness, embodiment, yoga, and contemplative practice. I’m especially interested in what happens when we stop treating ourselves as problems to solve and become curious about what our minds, bodies, and protective patterns are trying to communicate.
I want therapy to be clinically thoughtful, deeply human, and useful in your actual life.
I want therapy to help you become better at listening to yourself, not just better at listening to me.
My Approach
I draw from different approaches depending on what is actually happening for you. Sometimes we need practical skills. Sometimes we need to understand a pattern more deeply. Sometimes we need to slow down enough to notice what your body or different parts of you are already communicating.
Curiosity not correction
I’m interested in helping you understand why a pattern makes sense before we rush to change it. Symptoms, reactions, and protective parts often become more workable once we understand what they have been trying to do.
Mind, body + nervous system
I integrate EMDR, parts work, mindfulness, and body awareness. Sometimes the next step is not thinking harder, but noticing what is happening beneath the words.
Wholeness, not fixing
Trauma, shame, loss, and survival can shape us deeply without becoming the whole story of who we are. I don’t begin from the assumption that something is fundamentally wrong with you.
What I’m Like as a Therapist
I’m active and collaborative in the room. I listen closely, but I’m not going to sit silently and nod for an hour.
If I notice a pattern that feels important, I’ll probably bring it up. If I think something might help, I’ll tell you what I’m thinking and why. And if something we’re doing isn’t working for you, I want to know that too.
I care a lot about consent in therapy. I may have clinical ideas, but you are still the person living your life. We can decide together where to focus and whether the work is actually helping.
I tend to be warm, curious, direct, and human. There is room for serious work, and there is also room to laugh.
People I Enjoy Working With
I work with adults with many different concerns, but I feel especially at home working with:
LGBTQ + queer adults
Men
Trauma + complex trauma
Dissociation + disconnection
Lost + pulled in different directions
Mindfulness + self-understanding
You do not need to share my worldview or be interested in mindfulness to work with me. These are tools and perspectives we can use when they are helpful, not beliefs you have to adopt.

My training matters to me, but credentials are only part of what makes therapy work. I’m committed to ongoing learning, humility, and paying attention to the person actually sitting in front of me.
Outside the Office
When I’m not doing therapy, I’m usually spending time with family and friends, hanging out with my dog and cats, wandering through the woods, camping, practicing yoga or meditation, or getting unexpectedly invested in some new interest.
I take the work seriously, but I don’t think that means we have to take ourselves seriously all the time.
